Non-executive directors are more important than ever for bringing in fresh, impartial guidance to companies of all sizes. The demand for non-executives has never been higher, but finding the right person can be challenging. They must have a strong track record in your market sector and fit well within your company's culture, whilst challenging the board and management.
Here are some comments/key tips taken from delegates who attended this event:
"Jim was pragmatic and very knowledgeable but coupled this with enthusiasm and passion for his many and varied portfolio of projects"
"I have enough information to draft an initial spec for a non-exec post for my company"
"There are a lot of people wanting to find a non-exec and a lot of people wanting to be one...but not that many ways to meet candidates and it might be difficult to get the right one. Don't do a deal without being sure and certainly not a deal that you can't get out of"
"Jim Faulds was a great speaker with good stories to tell"
"Tips - the importance of building a winning mentality"
"John was very lucid and is an effective foil at all the events I've been at"
"This was my first event attended since becoming a member. I found it an enjoyable and worthwhile evening and found it to be a refreshingly relaxed atmosphere to meet other members"
"Good, good examples of 'best' and 'not so best' practice were given in a humourful but succinct manner!"
"The tangible benefits of being able to talk to someone/a non-exec whose not embroiled in day to day activities was reinforced"
"Don't be afraid to ask, enquire or to fail. As you'll learn more by doing all or any of these rather than doing nothing at all"
"Good to hear from someone who has experience on both sides of the fence"
"In my opinion this was the best event to date I have been to"
"Jim was excellent and very interesting"
"Great content and networking"
"Jim was a good speaker with lots of relevant experience - very knowledgeable"
"I learnt more about the very real contribution that a non-exec can make, and often in ways I would not have thought of"
"The requirement for effective teamwork from all senior Management and Directors and how to improve this"
"Tips - non-execs are good but need careful selection"
"Just great hearing the real life experiences"
"Key tip - just be really careful"
"This was an interesting presentation on one non-exec's experience and way of working"
