Entrepreneur awards up for grabs

Entries are now being invited for this year's Entrepreneurial Exchange annual awards which recognise top talent in Scotland's business world.

The awards, launched in 1995, have been handed to many highprofile business leaders including Sir Tom Hunter, City Refrigeration boss Willie Haughey, Direct Holidays founder John Boyle and David Milne of Wolfson Microelectronics

There are two main awards. The coveted Entrepreneur of the Year award is presented to the person who has led their business to strong growth in revenue and profits through innovation, teamwork and leadership skills. This award recognises the talented and committed individuals who are running Scotland's most successful growth businesses.

The Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year award is judged with one eye on the future and goes to the person who has demonstrated that he or she is building a business of outstanding potential.

Last year Martin Lightbody, managing director of Lightbody Celebration Cakes, won the Entrepreneur of the Year award and Emerging entrepreneur was Ana Stewart, chief executive of Fife-based I-design. Lightbody won the award in recognition of his achievement in turning the Hamilton-headquartered bakery business into one of the UK's leading producers of specialist cakes.

Stewart was commended for playing a pioneering role in the emergence of a new marketing medium after spotting the potential to use cash machines as sales tools. This year's winners will be announced at the Entrepreneurial Exchange Annual Dinner & Awards in association with Bank of Scotland Corporate at the Hilton Glasgow on November 27.

The Entrepreneur of the Year Awards are being sponsored by Deloitte and Business7.

James Boyle, the head of Entrepreneurial Business Scotland at Deloitte, said: "Scotland has always had a great track record and culture of encouraging and fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.

"Deloitte is committed to this sector of the Scottish business community and our continued partnership with the Entrepreneurial Exchange Awards illustrates our support and expertise in the market."

Entry forms are now available from Kylie Forrest on 01698 459966 and need to be returned by August 29.
