Rogers Scores With Five-A-Side Company

Entrepreneur award for Goals Soccer chief

A businessman who started his career by running a fleet of ice cream vans while at university has been named Entrepreneur of the Year for 2010.

Keith Rogers, managing director of Goals Soccer Centres, accepted the award at the Entrepreneurial Exchange annual dinner in Glasgow last night.

Rogers had already built and sold fivea-side football business Pitz when he launched Goals.

Since then he has grown the company into a publicly listed business with growing international operations.

He said: "I am delighted to pick up this award. I believe every one of us desires success, whether in our career or in other facets of life. Goals Soccer Centres has come a long way in the past few years, however, we still see huge potential for our business both in the UK and abroad.

"Our success is the result of the combined efforts of an amazing group of individuals with a shared vision."

Genius Foods founder Lucinda Bruce-Gardyne was named Emerging Entrepreneur of theYear for the success of her gluten-free bread which has won distribution contracts with major supermarkets.

She said: "Winning this award is truly a highly prized endorsement and recognition from business leaders, which I hope will help to raise the awareness of the work being done within the gluten free industry to improve the lives of those who rely on products such as Genius."

Panel judge Jim Boyle, partner in charge of entrepreneurial business for awards sponsor Deloitte, said: "Congratulations to Keith and Lucinda who are both worthy winners in their respective categories.

"The interview panel unanimously agreed that Keith was a worthy recipient of Entrepreneur of theYear accolade.

"The judges went for Lucinda in the Emerging Entrepreneur of theYear award because they were impressed by the manner in which she had transformed herself; from hard-working chef to ambitious businesswoman with the energy and ambition needed to exploit the endless opportunities that lie ahead."

John Anderson, chief executive of the Exchange, said: "Keith and Lucinda are worthy recipients of their accolades.

"They are resourceful business builders whose drive has helped them reach commercial success."
