Vets Now

Richard is founder and Group Managing Director of Vets Now Ltd. Qualifying as a vet in 1993 from Glasgow University, Richard then worked in general practice before returning to Glasgow where he gained his PhD in 2000 and founded Vets Now Ltd in 2001.

Vets Now provides dedicated Out Of Hours emergency and critical care for the clients of more than 500 veterinary practices and employs c.450 permanent staff. The company has revolutionised the delivery of Out Of Hours pet care in the UK and grown to its current annual turnover of c. £30M since launch. Vets Now have been awarded a number of awards including the CBI / Real business Young Company of the Year.

Richard was named the Entrepreneurial Exchange's Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year 2005, the IoD Regional Director of the Year award and the University of Glasgow's "Young Alumnus 2006". In 2009 he became the youngest ever President of the British Small Animal Veterinary Association and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 2010.

Outside work, Richard is married to another vet, Jan and has three young sons who are all more clever, better looking and superior at sports than any of his friends children. He is a qualified private helicopter pilot and wants to become an Astronaut when he grows up.
