Ball Chairman, Tom Hunter (aka Alice Cooper) welcomed 500 members and their guests to the fifth Entrepreneurs' Ball at the Glasgow Hilton on Saturday 12 June 2004 with the following comments:
Thanks to you're partying and great generosity, two very special charities, The Make A Wish Foundation and Cash for Kids benefit so much and will continue to do so - you are helping a child every week have their wish come true, well done! And this year we will also support the PSYBT in their work with aspiring young people setting up in business for the first time – a fitting charitable location for some of the funds raised tonight.
I'd like to thank all those donors who have offered up some fantastic prizes
and auction items for tonight's event, without you it just would not happen. Welcome and thanks also to this year's media sponsor, The Sunday Mail.
We are 'for entrepreneurs, by entrepreneurs' and at our heart is a philanthropic
spirit. We not only give freely to fellow entrepreneurs but we also give back to the broader community and that is so fundamentally important to all of us in the Exchange.
Tonight there are no speeches and no presentations - just some unashamed fun as we celebrate our Pop Idols in the only way we can, by playing the part and boogieing until we drop...
In honour of you all our motto for tonight is 'play hard and give something back', so when it comes to the auction and prize draw whether you're Kylie, Elvis, Sting or Madonna dig deep and lets make a difference by making even more cash for those who need our support than we did last year.
Welcome, have fun and lets have a Ball!
Tom warned that their would be few surprises - the first of which was the appearance of legendary rocker, Rod Stewart, who came as himself and his girlfriend Penny Lancaster, sensationally dressed as Cher.
This evening could not have been made possible without the generosity and support from table hosts and the companies which donated their services and prizes for the auction and silent auction.
A very big thank you to our sponsors The Sunday Mail & Clyde 1 and special mention must be paid to Matthew Mullen and all the staff at the Hilton Glasgow. Medespa for the ladies gift bags. The crew at MCL and all the staff at Curious Oranj especially Catriona Dand and John Watson & Co.
Finally our thanks go to those who bought tickets and tables:
