ANNUAL AWARDS DINNER 2003
Exchange members and their guests filled the 700 places at the ninth Annual Dinner and Awards at the Hilton in Glasgow on 27 November 2003. More members than ever were able to attend and experience first hand the event of the year. As usual there were some changes to the format, most notably going “live” to London for a special edition of News at Ten with Sir Trevor McDonald who presented the Review of the Year. Nearly 20 minutes of total silence from the audience followed as Sir Trevor revealed the achievements of many Exchange members during 2003.
Entrepreneur of the Year 2003 was David Milne, founder of Wolfson Microelectronics who beat off stiff competition from Stuart Ross of Belhaven Group and John McGuire of the Phoenix Car Company. Keith Neilson of software firm Craneware was the winner in the Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year category seeing off the challenges of Simon Best of Ardana Bioscience and Alan Revie of National Tyres to claim the award.
Last year’s Entrepreneur of the Year, Walter Nimmo of Inveresk Research was formally inducted into the Entrepreneurial Exchange Hall of Fame along with Chris Gorman of the Gadget Shop and Alasdair Locke of Abbot Group.
We are grateful for the continued support of main sponsor Bank of Scotland and UBS Wealth Management, PricewaterhouseCoopers and The Herald, without whom the dinner would not have been possible.
