Biographies

Sir Tom Farmer CBE, KCSG, founded Kwik-Fit in 1971 from which he resigned after the sale to Ford in 1999. He has a number of business interests which include property development and investments in new business start-ups.

Appointments

His present appointments are, Chairman of The Trustees of The Duke of Edinburgh's Award,

Non-Executive Director - MyTravel Group plc, Trustee of the Clerk Maxwell Cancer Research Fund,

Honorary President - Young Enterprise Scotland, Trustee of Scottish Business Achievement Award Trust, Honorary President of the Entrepreneurial Exchange and Deputy Lieutenant of the City of Edinburgh.

Honours and Awards

His honours are Knights Bachelor in the Queen's Birthday Honours List, CBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List. Knight Commander with Star of the Order of St. Gregory the Great (From Pope John Paul II)

Officier in de Orde van Orange-Nassau of The Netherlands (From Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands).

The Knight Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland (From the President of Poland).

The Doctorates he has been awarded are Honorary Degree of Doctor of the University College, Queen Margaret University College, Edinburgh, Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration, Napier University, Edinburgh, Honorary Degree of Doctor of Technology, Glasgow Caledonian University, Degree of Doctor honoris causa, University of Edinburgh. Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws, University of St. Andrews.  In March 2007, he was appointed founder Chancellor of Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh.

The awards he has received are The Institute of Management Gold Medal, Scotland's Elite Leader of the Year Award. Scottish Businessman of the Year, Recipient of the Golden Plate Award - American Academy of Achievement, Entrepreneurial Exchange - Exceptional Achievement Award, Clydesdale Bank Corporate Citizenship Award, The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International (Paul Harris Fellowship) Award.  The Andrew Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy - (Sir Tom is the first Scot to receive this prestigious Award). Honorary Fellowship from Stevenson College, Edinburgh. Patron of the Arts on the Vatican Museums.  Companionship of The Royal College of Surgeons.

Sir Tom Farmer CBE, KCSG was born 10th July 1940.  He has been married to wife Anne for 41 years and they have one daughter Sally aged 40, one son John aged 39 and have three grandchildren.

Chris Gorman, OBE. A serial entrepreneur, and Chairman of The Entrepreneurial Exchange. Chris has headed several highly successful ventures in technology and retail businesses. A founder shareholder in one of the UK's first nationwide mobile phone retailers, DX Communications, Chris then went on to create the innovative web services company, Reality Group. Several other investments followed and current business interests include a number of mobile and internet enterprises including GetFit Wellness, The Light Agency, Quintessentially, AWOMO, MyMart and Purple Lounge.  

Highly regarded, Chris has received many business awards for his entrepreneurialism over the years, including Ernst & Young Scottish Entrepreneur of the Year, UK E-Business Entrepreneur, Young Business Leader of the Year, Glenfiddich Spirit of Scotland in Business, and the laudable SBAAT Businessman of the Year Award.  

In June 2005 Chris was delighted to receive an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list for services to business. 

Chris is a regular speaker at business events; he has featured in several business related TV shows; he lectures in schools and universities; has been awarded an honorary professorship in business at Paisley University and is also a Governor of the Royal Scottish Academy for Music and Drama.
