Roy MacGregor, OBE

After studying marketing and business management at university Roy MacGregor joined his family’s retail and property company in the late 1970s. Building on previous experience in supplying food to offshore rigs, he went on to establish oil-and-gas contracting company MacGregor Energy Services. By 1994 the business was turning over £50million per annum and was sold to 3i for an undisclosed sum.

Roy launched Global Energy Group in 2005. It now has an annual turnover of more than £470m and a world-wide workforce of more than 4,000 people. His four sons all work in the business and in October 2011, the company purchased Nigg Energy Park and have invested over £14 million in its upgrade to date, with a further £40 million investment just comenced on expanding the quayside facilities.

Roy has won several awards for his entrepreunership and work as Global is now the biggest private employer in the Highlands. Roy also received an OBE for his work in business and the community last year.

As Chairman of Ross County Football Club, he has been the driving force behind their recent success in gaining promotion into the SPFL, where they were 5th place and 7th place respectively and also took them to the Scottish Cup Final in 2010.

John Anderson

A well known specialist in entrepreneurship and new venture creation in Scotland, John brings considerable experience of emerging and high growth companies to his role as Chief Executive of Entrepreneurial Scotland.

A founder member of Entrepreneurial Scotland, John was a shareholding director of a young venture backed technology company engaged in the design, manufacture and distribution of laboratory equipment and co-founded a company that provided pre-hospital emergency care and healthcare industry training. As a CA in professional practice he worked with many of Scotland's most exciting growth companies after returning to Scotland from Chicago in 1989.

An experienced non-executive chairman and director in growing businesses, currently with two appointments (AWS Ocean Energy and Panton McLeod), John is a Par Equity Advisory Panel Member and Chairman of Gabriel Investments angel syndicate. He is a regular contributor to the media on issues facing emerging and high growth companies and was instrumental in setting up the Scottish Enterprise "Local Heroes" project, based in part on his own MBA thesis "Local Heroes - Scotland's Entrepreneurial Role Models".

John is also a Visiting Professor at the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship at the University of Strathclyde, a founding GlobalScot and is a member of the Prince's Trust Scotland Council.
