Speakers:  Mr David Brown Mr Andrew Reid      

Dr David K Brown, Manager, West of Scotland KTP Centre.  David graduated with a PhD in 1972 from the University of Glasgow and remained on the staff for 28 years at the University.  He researched and taught computationsl fracture mechanics and finite element stress analysis, skills also used as a Director  of Fracture Mechanics Consultant Ltd.  He was a Senior Lecturer and Director of Enterprise.  David currently manages the West of Scotland KTP Centre based in the University of Strathclyde and works closely with Universities of Glasgow, Paisley and Glasgow Caledonian University and four other HEIs in the west of Scotland.  In June 2003, TCS evolved into Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) which continue to be supported by increasing funding through Government agencies such as DTI and the Scottish Executive.  The west of Scotland TCS Centre, realised over £10m of technology-transfer grants since its establishment in February 1996.  In Scotland currently there are three KTP Centres with a combined portfolio of around 130 Programmes (UK total of 1,000) valued at around £13m.  Although programmes cover all academic disciplines and small and large business, there are many in the manufacturing, IT and biotechnology areas.

Andrew Reid, Managing Director & Founder of Mastclimbers Ltd, (www.mastclimbers.co.uk) an award-winning Glasgow start-up (1997) company that is now the leading and largest contractor in its field in Europe. A serial entrepreneur, who apart from a brief spell founding a climbing centre in Glencoe, has worked with heavy plant and equipment around the world for thirty years. Andrew is also a past Director of The Entrepreneurial Exchange.

The evening will be Chaired by John Anderson, CEO, The Entrepreneurial Exchange (www.entrepreneurial-exchange.co.uk). A well known specialist in entrepreneurship and new venture creation in Scotland, John brings considerable experience of emerging and high growth companies to his role as Chief Executive of The Entrepreneurial Exchange. A founder member of The Entrepreneurial Exchange, John was a shareholding director of a young venture backed technology company engaged in the design, manufacture and distribution of laboratory equipment.  He co-founded a company that provided pre-hospital emergency care and healthcare industry training and also a new media business.  As an adviser in professional practice he worked with many of Scotlandís most exciting growth companies since returning to Scotland from Chicago in 1989.   An experienced non-executive director, he is a regular contributor to the media on issues facing emerging and high growth companies and was instrumental in setting up the Scottish Enterprise "Local Heroes" project, based in part on his own MBA thesis "Local Heroes - Scotland's Entrepreneurial Role Models". John is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship at the University of Strathclyde and sits on the board of the Scottish Institute for Enterprise, formed to encourage the commercialisation of research from Scotlandís universities.  He sits on the PSYBT Growth Fund panel and is a member of the Glasgow University Research and Enterprise Advisory Board.  He is a director of Stirling University Innovation Park and also sits on the advisory board of Embreonix at the University of Abertay, Dundee.
