Fast growth brings its rewards but also challenges the entrepreneurís personal and management skills. Amanda Boyle, Managing Director of Caledonia Contracts cites the challenge of perpetually redefining and repositioning her company as a key driver for her. Her Dundee-based contractor specialises in shopfitting, commercial interiors and fire doors installations and works throughout the UK with clients who include Morgan, Bakers Oven, HMV, Schuh, Telewest Broadband and Bovis Lend Lease. The company has been trading for five years, employs 19 people with turnover in excess of £3million and aims to be in the industry top ten within the next five years.
Ian McMillan, Chairman of McMillan UK, will talk about the route he has taken from Arbroath retail shop, run in conjunction with his father, to the multi-million-pound company that it is today. Established in 1982, McMillan opened its first branch office in Glasgow in 1984 and has been expanding ever since, now employing 160 people in 13 offices across the UK and Ireland with an annual turnover of £28m. Providing the leadership, vision and direction, Ian has developed the company to its market-leading position with sales to the multimedia industry from five specialist divisions; Broadcast TV, Facilities Management, Presentation/Videoconferencing, Hires and Technical Services.
