Rob Walker is the Managing Director of Versko Ltd (www.versko.com) , an e-business solutions provider specialising in the design and delivery of Web Portals. Versko was formed in 2001 after Rob sold his previous business Inform Software Systems in May 2000 to FTSE listed QSP Group. Rob is an engineer by profession after graduating from Strathclyde University with Bachelor and Masters degrees. Rob is also a Chartered Engineer and Member of the British Computer Society, and most recently has been appointed a Director of ScotlandIS, the industry trade body representing Scottish ICT companies. Rob also supports the Enterprise Schools Programme and is a Member of the Entrepreneurial Exchange. Other activities include the establishment of a separate business focussing on software products and the pursuit of hands-on non-executive involvement in other businesses striving for growth, profitability and realisation. Dave McDougall is MD of the Livingston based IT management company, Wisdom. (www.wisdomit.co.uk). The company which was set up in 1993 has grown steadily every year since then, now with a wide range of long term clients and over 40 staff in both Scotland and England. During this process the company has managed to thrive during times of both expanding and contracting markets. Wisdom has invested consistently in its people, building up its own management team, and Dave has recently sold part of his shareholding to other directors and managers to allow him more time to spend on other pursuits, while providing them with a bigger share of the responsibility for continuing the company’s growth. His background is in Economics, and in addition to a career involving entrepreneurial and education activities he has extensive experience of sales management in the IT sector. He is currently working with further education colleges to help them expand their entrepreneurial prowess and has particular enthusiasm for seeing them develop the effectiveness of sales training in Scotland. He is working with a number of organisations to promote a more confident Scotland and would like to see a thriving private sector generate the resources to allow Scottish people to flourish.
The Evening will be Chaired by John Morgan. John became Managing Director of his first advertising agency at the age of 23 and formed his own company, Morgan Associates, in 1980. Morgans merged with Struthers Advertising & Marketing in 1990 and later became The Morgan Partnership. When the Agency’s largest account, Hilton, left the Agency in November 2001, John and his team found it impossible to replace the huge income and the Agency was put into voluntary liquidation that December. After 21 years of riding an industry roller-coaster and finally losing almost everything at the age of 55, he did the only sensible thing: he re-mortgaged and started again. John's new company, merle limited, (www.merleagency.com) was formed in the same month as the demise of Morgans and now handles such clients as Highland Spring, Linn Products, Robert Wiseman Dairies, Sky Television, Scottish Milk, Careers Scotland (Scottish Enterprise), and the TyrePlus group - the second chain in the Kwik-Fit company. John is a founder and Board member of the Entrepreneurial Exchange, a past Director of Scottish Enterprise Forth Valley and he says he’s happy to be back on the roller coaster.
