The Entrepreneurial Exchange

Biographies

Suzanne started Denvir in 2003 to provide a new breed of agency where value was created for customers by a purist, media-neutral, focus on the brand and its consumer.  Denvir is now Scotland's number one brand company, building brand leaders and working with an enviable list of blue chip clients including Tesco, Macdonald Hotels, Manorlane and Moet Hennessy. Consistent and organic growth has quickly allowed Denvir to establish itself as a new force in marketing where brand value is built by connecting brands to consumers through commercially strong and creatively engaging campaigns, whatever the mediums. Denvir is ranked in the top 30 marketing communication companies outside of London and ranked top 5 for growth.

Suzanne is one of Scotland's leading marketing professionals and was recently voted in the Power 100 list for marketing in Scotland.  Her career spans 22 years including 14 years in industry holding executive positions in Kellogg's and Diageo. Suzanne is a self-confessed brand geek whose business hero is Martin Sorrell for his success in the business of being creative.

Born in Kirkcaldy, schooled in Manchester and after an eclectic mix of initial employment - Shoe Sales, HMC&E, Au pair in Canada, Sue got into marketing through telesales, working for commission only, where within 3 months she was promoted to Advertising Manager!

Moving to the agency side first with Hilton Advertising  then Grey Communications Group she was promoted to Media Director and Deputy MD  with responsibility for the North of England and Scotland.

By 1996 she was convinced of the need for media specialists working out with the traditional full service agency and in 1997  MediaVision was incorporated with Sue as principal shareholder and Managing Director. MediaVision has grown from five staff and no clients to 25 staff researching, strategising, planning and buying media throughout the UK, across Europe and in North America with a turnover of £50 million.

MediaVision consistently reverses the trend of media accounts leaving Scotland for London by bringing English, UK and European business accounts to Scotland.

Sue joined the Entrepreneurial Exchange in 2001, was appointed Special Projects Director in 2008 and has recently been involved in mentoring through the Raising the Bar initiative and has a favourite saying  "It can be done!"

Iain was chairman and founder of Graham Technology, established in 1986. One of the objectives of the business was to create highly paid engineering jobs in Scotland and retain intellectual property in the Scottish marketplace. This was at a time when software engineering graduates were being lost to London and America and in particular, California.

Graham Technology grew to span four continents and was the largest privately owned software company in Scotland, employing 250 people, competing against global giants. Iain's focus on people development and participative management led to the creation of a team that regularly wins against the biggest and most aggressive companies in the world. Graham Technology was sold in April 2008 and it continues to focus on delivering the mission critical solutions to large-scale organisations.

The contribution that Iain has made to the Scottish economy and the IT industry as a whole through his commitment to people development and continual innovation was recognised by Glasgow University. In 2006, he was awarded an honorary Doctorate as Doctor of Glasgow University.

Iain was educated at Glasgow Academy, followed by training in Engineering and has since worked in autonomous Managing Director roles since the age of 25.

Iain is a passionate believer in continual learning and his other interests include competitive and non-competitive yachting, aviation, farming and conservation. Married to Sheena for 34 years, Iain has 2 children Mairi and Fiona, who were both actively involved in the global expansion and development of Graham Technology.
