Alan Bonner

Prior to joining the telecoms industry Alan Bonner was sales director for BUPA, responsible for growing the sales distribution from 34, to 523 sales people inside four years, contributing revenues of £35m per annum.

He left BUPA to set up a telecoms consultancy in 1996, during that time he also held the position of National Sales Manager for Atlantic Telecom plc, before founding Pinnacle Telecom Plc in 1998. 

Alan aims to build a £50m business, which creates solutions that join together a company's three core networks (IT network, telephony network and mobile network).

Pinnacle is fully licensed Public Telephone Operator, has its own telephone network and interconnects with BT, Virgin Media and THUS. As well as this, it has its own hosted voice (VoIP) platforms and engineers.

It is also Scotland's oldest ISP (and a founder member of Nominet), operating from its data centre in Glasgow, which amongst others manages services for Loganair, Flybe, Salon Services and Holiday Inn Express.

By utilising traditional telephony and existing IT and mobile applications, coupled with next generation and DataStream services, Pinnacle is creating bespoke solutions for organisations, which increase efficiency, reduce cost and provide disaster recovery contingencies for customers.

Pinnacle' has prospered through organic growth, targeted acquisitions and disposals. Today; Pinnacle Telecom Group plc is listed on the London Stock Exchange with its shares traded on the AIM and Plus markets, Pinnacle is one of Scotland's leading providers of converged telecom solutions, bringing together fixed and mobile telephony, VoIP, broadband, IP and telematics solutions, all bundled and serviced wrapped to the client on one bill.

Alan Revie started his career in the tyre industry at the age of seventeen as a tyre fitter. Very quickly from that day he started moving up the management ladder working for a number of tyre companies, until eventually working for the German tyre manufacturer Continental.

 

During his time at Continental, Alan was the Managing Director of the UK business and also had the task of opening new businesses throughout Europe.

In 1996, Alan decided to start his own international tyre trading business and successfully launched this by trading tyres from all areas of the world, to tyre retailers and wholesalers across Europe.

In 1999 he was one of five founding partners to start the highly successful and pioneering internet tyre company Delti-Com, based in Hanover, Germany. This business grew rapidly to become a truly global player with sales in over 40 countries. In October 2006 the partners completed a successful flotation and Delti-Com now has a full listing on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. Alan has retained an interest in this business and still today sits on the supervisory board of Delti-Com. At the 2011 AGM, Delti-Com had a market capitalisation value of 800m Euros and annual sales of 8m tyre units worldwide.

 

In July 2001 Alan was approached by the main board of Continental to look at their retail business in the UK, National Tyre and Autocare, which at the time was failing with losses of £40m per annum. Alan became the C.E.O in September and by December 2001, he announced the acquisition of National Tyre and Autocare by Axle Ltd, a company he had started only months before. The announcement saved 1200 jobs.

The move marked an incredible period for Alan as it was with National Tyres that he started his career as a tyre fitter in 1976 rising to branch manager before leaving in 1980.

Since 2001 Axle Group Holdings Ltd. has grown and now has a portfolio of five companies;

The overall turnover of the group in the UK is £200m and employs 1400 staff. By combining the group turnover with that of Delti-com sees a total of over £500m.

During February 2008, Alan created Axle Investments by pulling together all the groups’ commercial property assets which he now utilises as a vehicle to make further investments.

Alan has also sat at executive level on a number of industry boards including the Tyre Wholesale Group (TWG), National Tyre Distributors Association (NTDA) and was a founding member/director of the Tyre Industry Federation (TIF) which is now the leading industry body.

He is well known for his philanthropy work and has supported many charities over the years. Alan is a trustee of Enlight, the venture philanthropy vehicle of the Entrepreneurial Exchange. He has also been a board member of the Entrepreneurial Exchange and a founding member of the London Entrepreneurial Exchange.

His latest business venture saw the opening of the five-star Edinburgh restaurant with rooms - 21212. Recently voted the Best New Restaurant at the National Restaurant Awards, 21212 received a Michelin Star only months after opening while the chef was named Chef of the Year in 2011.

Murray Strachan

 

Murray is Managing Director of Strachan & Partners, a specialist business advisory consultancy, and Chief Executive of Albyn Ventures, a business investment group. He also holds a number of non-executive chairman & director positions in a diverse range of companies throughout the UK, many of which he is a shareholder in, including  outsourced payroll, employment law / hr consultancy, local radio, specialist landscape planning & property reports, men's fashion accessories, golf practice products, retail & oil/gas services. 

Prior to February 2007, he was a Director and Chief of Staff of the Petrofac Operations Services Division, a major international oil services business. Until May 2006, Murray was the Chief Executive of the Petrofac Training Group, the leading training & consultancy business to the international oil and gas industry. Petrofac Training was created in February 2004, when Petrofac acquired the RGIT Montrose Group, which had been acquired in April 2003 by a MBO Team led by him. Prior to RGIT Montrose, he worked for divisions of Liberty Mutual and the AP Moller / Maersk Group in a number of senior management or strategic change management roles.

Murray is also a non executive director of &/or holds board positions with a number of charitable causes &/or organisations in Scotland and was a top 3 finalist for the Scottish Director of the Year in 2004.  RGIT Montrose, under his leadership, was the winner of the Small/Mid-Size Company Deal of the Year 2003/4 and was runner up of overall Deal of the Year 2003/4.  In 2007, Murray was appointed Honorary Professor of the Robert Gordon University, joined the Board of the Entrepreneurial Exchange in Scotland and joined the Development Board of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.  Murray is also Vice Chairman of the NE of Scotland cancer charity CLAN with whom he has been a director since 2001.
