Speaker Biographies
Speaker:  Mr Douglas Anderson Mr Paul Atkinson      

Douglas Anderson, Founder of Optos plc (Vice Chairman) and Crombie Anderson Associates (Chairman).  Douglas is professionally qualified with a 25 year business career and yields experience in almost every aspect (at every level) of the technology product design and product commercialisation process.  He is a manager of people, projects and businesses with the critical faculties of a design engineer.  Douglas is a strong sales  person with knowledge of international marketing and is the founder of four high-tech start-ups, two of which are in medical technology.  Optos is a medical equipment company, employing 80 staff (including 30 in the US) which was established to invent and then commercialise a device for examining the retina.  After 10 years of R & D it is now successfully placing devices across the US and UK.  Crombie Anderson Associates is a long established and profitable multi-disciplinary design consultancy employing 30 full time designers and engineers which offers services in marketing, communications, graphic design, new media, e-business and technology product development and has offices in Edinburgh and Dunfermline. Born in Yorkshire, England, Paul Atkinson is a serial entrepreneur in the Recruitment Services and Technology business. He founded his third and current business Corarus Search & Selection at the end of 2001. Corarus delivers a unique range of Executive Search and Venture Support services to the Technology, Professional and Financial Services markets. Prior to this Paul successfully partnered Gordon Adam in building Direct Resources and RecruitmentScotland and then engineered a sale and exit from both businesses at the peak to the last technology boom.  He is a Director of a number of businesses including the award winning business, LearningIT and also chairs a panel aimed at promoting entrepreneurship and enterprise to the youth of Scotland. Educated as a Physicist, Paul started his career in the Semiconductors before moving into IT industry in1985. He describes himself as a Salesman who happens to have worked as an Engineer, Recruiter, Management Consultant, and Company Director. He has sold, recruited, and advised in many business sectors including Electronics, Semiconductors, Finance, Utilities, Software & IT Services, Legal, Accountancy and Management Consulting. Paul enjoys bringing together people and companies to create good business opportunities and is always looking for new ways to network and add value to the connections and contacts he makes.

The Chairman for the evening will be John Anderson, CEO of The Entrepreneurial Exchange.
