Alan's background until recently was CEO of the Georgeson Group which is Scotland's leading office interiors organisation and one of the most respected in the UK. He sold his business to the management in July 2003. Current involvements include Oceanclear Developments (commercial property), various residential developments, design and build of Spas throughout the UK (www.spadevelopments.com) and supporting his wife Sharon with her Medespa business (www.medespa.com). Alan is married with 3 children and hobbies include boating,golfing and fishing in the US.
Andrew Thomson founded Reservoir Management Ltd (RML) in 1990, a leading oil and gas field development and subsurface consultancy. Following a successful MBO/MBI, the Holding Company, which Andrew is MD, is continually growing and requiring the best people to join the team. RML provides key sub-surface skills to permit the maximum extraction of oil and gas in the North Sea and internationally. It has a commercial division in London assisting in the acquisition and disposals of assets as well as technical evaluations and reserves reporting. With an office in Kuala Lumpur, RML is also gaining additional international projects and contacts. The final RML Division is in Marginal Field Development, working with both established and new entrant Operators to develop more economically and technicaly challanging feilds, with a combination of inovative commercial solutions and expertise. RML holds contracts with all the major Operators and are the DTI’s Scottish technical representatives. The company has continued to grow employing 45+ staff, with an annual turnover in excess of £6,000,000. It has held ISO9001 accreditation since 1996 and holds an Investors In People award. After completing an Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Edinburgh University, Andrew hitchhiked, trans-America and trans-Canada, before taking up a position with Schlumberger. Following stints in Nigeria, Pau, Cameroon and a remote location in Cabinda, Andrew returned to Edinburgh to gain a Masters Degree in Petroleum Engineering from the Heriot Watt University. He then joined Britoil in Glasgow, moving to Aberdeen where, following the take over by BP, Andrew decided to start his own business, from which RML evolved. Andrew is a chartered engineer and regularly signs off on Due-Diligence for Reserves, Evaluations and Stock Market Reports and is recognised as a ‘Competent Person’ under LSE Chapter 19 definitions.
Our Chairman for the evening is Kai McCabe – Managing Director Scotland & North, Search Consultancy. As Managing Director – Scotland & North, Kai sits on the main board of Search Consultancy, Scotland’s leading independent recruitment business. Since becoming part of the management buy-in/buy-out team in February 2000, Kai has played the key role in developing Search’s successful business model within the Scottish market. Whilst firmly establishing Search as the leading independent player in Scotland, Kai has also supported Search’s substantial growth south of the border as the company has opened locations in Manchester, Crawley, Derby, Leicester and Leeds, and increased staff numbers from 170 to over 360. As a result, Search is now recognised as one of the UK’s 100 fastest growing private companies in a recent PricewaterhouseCoopers’ ‘Profit Track 100’. Kai joined Search in 1995 as Director of their Edinburgh operation and within 3 years was appointed Managing Director for the overall business in Scotland and the North East of England. Kai’s Scottish Team consists of over 200 professionals in 14 specialist business units. Kai, who has an MBA from Edinburgh University Management School, joined the recruitment industry in 1987 and rose to Sales Director of a market leading pharmaceutical consultancy before joining Search.
