Alan Malcolm runs Alan Malcolm & Co “AMCo”, a specialist Corporate Finance Accounting practice acting for Companies, Angels, Venture Capitalists, Banks, Lawyers and other Accountants in the sale and buying of businesses, raising money and advisory work. AMCo is one of the leading Corporate Finance players in Scotland, sitting immediately behind the Big Four in terms of corporate finance work and 1/3 of its work is now outside Scotland. Recently this has included France, Germany and Brazil. Alan started as a Trainee Chartered Accountant with Thomson McLintock & Co in Glasgow in 1965 and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with the Institute’s Gold Medal and Distinction in 1970. Thereafter he was a Manager in Glasgow, ran the Paris audit practice for 2 years and was Financial Advisor to the Scottish Office before making Partner in 1978 at the age of 29. In the next 16 years, he successively ran the engagement for BNOC/Britoil through to flotation and did a number of other prospectuses, set up the firms Marketing Committee in 1981 and the first specialist Corporate Finance department in 1984. He experienced the KPMG merger in 1987 and left that firm in 1994. He has previously worked in France and can speak French, German, a little Italian and Portuguese. Alan who has been an active member of The Entrepreneurial Exchange since its first year will share his considerable expertise on this topic.
