The Entrepreneurial Exchange

Biographies

Steven is Chief Executive of Aurora Hotels. Born on 21st May 1974 in Stirling, Steven's career began at the age of 12 years when, although still at school, he found employment as a Kitchen Porter in the Royal Hotel in Bridge of Allan to help augment the family income.  Through deep-seated loyalty and an assiduous attitude he was given the opportunity to learn at all levels thus setting him on the road to success.

His first supervisory position was as Lounge Supervisor at Dunblane Hydro Hotel, this was followed by a move to the 5 star luxury Old Course Hotel in St Andrews as Cocktail Bar Supervisor.

Steven then moved into the operations side of the hotel trade.  His first appointment was as Conference & Events Manager which then led to the position of Food & Beverage Manager coupled with the position of Deputy Manager.  Both these positions were held at Stirling Highland Hotel.

Onwards and upwards.  In January 1996, Steven, now Hotel Manager of the Carlton Hotel in Edinburgh, was heavily involved in the reconstruction and operational planning of this newly refurbished hotel.   Steven stayed at the Carlton Hotel for over 2 years before joining forces with Macdonald Hotels as Operations Manager at Inchyra Grange Hotel in Falkirk. In January 1999 Steven gained promotion to the position of General Manager at Inchyra Grange Hotel, the youngest person ever to hold this position within Macdonald Hotels. Steven was with Macdonald Hotels for a total of 7 years.

Steven's dreams have always been hotels and in March 2005 he purchased, with a business partner, Airth Castle Hotel & Spa Resort.  Although in receivership and furnished to a 2 star level, Steven's foresight, creativity, and above all, his intense determination to succeed, raised Airth Castle Hotel from obscurity to one of the most well respected 4 star Deluxe hotels in Central Scotland.

October 2006 saw the purchase of Glenbervie House, a private family residence in Larbert, and in May 2007 this Victorian Mansion house was unveiled as Glenbervie House Hotel, one of the most luxurious hotels in the Forth Valley.  This purchase brought about a new company name Aurora Hotels

Glenbervie House Hotel was tentatively awarded 5 Star status for the development and is looking to, in Winter 2007, receive final planning for Phase 2 which is a £52 Million Hotel Leisure & Spa Village creating a new and very large 5 Star "Chic" hotel. This Hotel will also have its own Golf Course and will be building executive housing carrying price tags on certain properties for over £1Million.

In 2007 Steven won the Rising Star Hotelier of the Year and most improved & turned around Hotel business award. These were awarded to him by Hotel review Scotland.

Aurora Hotels this year from its 2 properties had a turnover of just under £7 Million and cleared an EBITDA of over £2.5 Million

Steven is very determined and exceptionally ambitious and he is always looking for opportunities and most definitely further acquisitions.
