Biographies

Richard set up ACS Clothing in 1997.  Originally providing a kilt hire service to the retail sector, ACS is now the largest Formal Hire business in the UK.

They have grown from 25 employees in an 8,000sq ft unit to 150 employees operating from a 100,000sq ft purpose built unit in the east end of Glasgow.  Their main business is wedding wear hire, which they deliver throughout the UK via their own van fleet.  They operate a hirewear service for Slater Menswear, 1860 Hire and have recently launched their own brand, Cameron Ross, which is distributed through the bridal sector.

 

Ann Rushforth MBE is a qualified Nurse and Midwife, who in 1987 started her own Nursing and Care Business. The company is now HALO (Health and Lifecare Options Ltd).

Following organic growth and acquisition it now has a turnover of over 16 million.

Across the country the company provides Care at home from intensive case management, nursing, social care and home helps. Health care across all sectors, health screening (MOT’s) and Occupational Health

In addition Ann supports her two elder children in their own Entrepreneurial endeavours. Mhairi has a group of five Childrens Nurseries and Stuart has a Plant (machines) and Landscape business. She is currently planning two new build Enterprise Centres.

As well as receiving an MBE, she was recently inducted into the Leading Women Entrepreneurs of the World.

The latter is an honour granted only to another three Scots businesswomen.

As well as being awarded the MBE for support to nursing and business in Dunbartonshire, Ann has been Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the year and Scottish Businesswoman of the Year.  She is also on the UK board for the Princess Royal Trust for Carers.  Ann assists with the accelerator panel for Princes Scotland Youth Business Trust, for their loan fund. Since 1989 Ann has been a guider for Girl Guide Association.

She is married with three adult children and two golden retrievers. She is passionate about business, her family and Scotland and believes her success is about quality of care, “The underlying factor is to give people the quality of care you would want for your own family."
