Scott Allison

While Scott was busy gaining a BA Hons Marketing degree at Glasgow's Strathclyde University, he also founded his first business, Freedom Phones, having spotted the market opportunity for selling mobile phones online.  Many years later that business developed into the award-winning business telecommunications provider, abica. A powerful new brand was created to be seen as a fresh alternative to the big multinational telecoms players. Offering converged mobile, landline and broadband services to SMEs the business model focused on delivering contracted, recurring revenue with the intention of building these long-term and creating a substantial UK wide business.

As business telecoms is an incredibly competitive marketplace abica's focus and differentiator was on quality and service, underpinned by seven core values. The investment in quality paid off when abica won the Glasgow Business Award for excellence in customer service.

In October 2009 Scott decided to move on from abica due to differing opinions on what the priorities should be going forward. After taking 6 months off in which time he travelled extensively and spent time in Silicon Valley, Scott has gone back to his online roots and has now launched his latest business, Teamly.com. Teamly builds online tools that help improve companies by revolutionising how they manage their staff and maximise their effectiveness. It combines his passion for the internet and desire to help people and businesses succeed.

As well as sitting on the board of The Entrepreneurial Exchange, Scott was invited to become a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts for his contribution to entrepreneurship and he is giving back by volunteering as an advisor to young start ups through the PSYBT. 

Ian Kerr

Ian founded ID in 1990 after a police career predominantly spent in the Criminal Investigation Department.  He also served in the Serious Crime Squad and during his studies was awarded the “Most Meritorious Student in Scotland in Forensic Science.”

Focusing on the needs of the customer is at the core of Ian’s business philosophy and he is driven by ID’s mission of “protecting the value in your business”.  Ian achieves this by always employing top-quality staff to guarantee the integrity of his business and matches this by using robust, quality process-driven systems. 

Compliance and Brand Protection are central to ID Inquiries activities.  Demand has necessitated that ID now have expert centres in Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool, London and Belfast.

Ian’s interests are golf, photography and reading.  He particularly enjoyed ‘From Good to Great’ by Jim Collins. 

Core to the Managing Director’s beliefs are that ID acts with integrity, efficiency and then results.

At present, Ian is mentoring 3 business owners from different business sectors. Being a former Director of the Exchange, and in appreciating the considerable contribution the Exchange has made to Ian’s business acumen, he firmly believes in giving something back.
