Larsson pic to sell for 40K

A 40,000 painting of Celtic football star Henrik Larsson is to be auctioned for charity.

Peter Howson's portrait of the Swedish striker will go under the hammer at a dinner for Scotland's richest stars and businessmen.

The auction is being arranged by former Sports Division chief Tom Hunter at the Entrepreneurs' Exchange summer ball in Glasgow next month.

Proceeds from the scale will be divided between Howson's Third Step charity - which aids recovering alcoholics and drug addicts and causes nominated by Larsson himself.

Hundreds of limited edition prints of the painting have been sold,

But only the original will have Larsson's signature on it beside Howson's.

The artist revealed yesterday that he thinks the painting's ideal home would be at Celtic Park.

He said:

'My personal hope is that Celtic buy the original - or somebody who will donate it to the club.'

Larsson is set to leave Celtic this summer.
