Exchange of heart for hard sellers

The Entrepreneurial Exchange, Scotland's networking club for high flyers, has been forced to clamp down on members plaguing each other with unwanted sales literature.

John Anderson, the group's chief executive, said a number of individuals had joined the group - which includes Sir Tom Farmer, Tom Hunter and Chris Gorman among its luminaries - with the intension of boosting their sales.

He said:  'There was a point where people were there just to get business off our people.  We sent a letter to members reminding them of their responsibilities to other members.

'Following that, when subscriptions came up for renewal, a number of them obviously realised that the exchange was not for them.'

Anderson declined to name any offenders, but said a number of independent financial advisers had been encouraged to leave.

'There are other organisations where people can sell things to each other,' he said.
