Howie cuts a dash in meat trade

BUTCHERY entrepreneur Simon Howie's meats business has posted bullish trading figures on the back of his pounds-2.5ma-year deal to supply Sainsbury.

The Perthshire company posted pre-tax profits of pounds-447,585 on turnover of pounds-4.8m in the year to April 30, 2004.

Farmer's son Howie, when aged 19 opened his first butcher's shop at Dunning, where the firm's factory stands. By 1995 he had increased his holdings to a chain of four award-winning shops and had established a busy business in the catering trade, supplying more than 150 hotels and restaurants, including Gleneagles and the Old Course Hotel at St Andrews.

Last November, Howie was named Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year at the prestigious Entrepreneurial Exchange awards.
