Scotland on Sunday
Those about to talk business salute you

The big question of the week is whether new Entrepreneurial Exchange chairman Jim McColl will be showing his knees and sporting a breastplate and sword in keeping with the gladiatorial theme of this year's annual conference at Gleneagles.

Who'll play the role of Maximus Decimus Meridius, made famous by Russell Crowe (left) in the Hollywood blockbuster?

'He demonstrated all the qualities entrepreneurs require to win their daily battles for customers, cash and talent, ' says the PR blurb.  'The raw courage, determination and honour displayed by Maximus to triumph over adversity are traits entrepreneurs must display on the road to success.'

Before fights began, gladiators used to shout :  'Hail Emperor, those who are about to die salute you.'  Maybe a similar chorus before proceedings begin on Thursday would get everybody in the mood.
