Top Up TV contract creates 100 jobs at MGt
MGT, the Kirkcaldy-based provider of call centre and other customer management services, is creating another 100 jobs after winning a multi-million-pound contract with Top Up TV.
The Fife company will provide a range of services including subscription and billing operations for the new digital terrestrial pay TV station that will be launched in March by former Sky executives David Chance and Ian West.
The contract win comes just months after MGt secured contracts with ITV 1, Channel 4, and Channel Five, and will take the company's workforce to more than 700 staff.
Jonathon Guthrie, MGt's chief executive who is also a former Sky executive, said that depending on the success of the new station it could create a further 400 jobs and several million pounds of revenue a year for MGt.
Guthrie added: "We are delighted to be involved with this exciting new development in pay TV, which further demonstrates our expertise in the provision of technically sophisticated multi-channel business process outsourcing.
"We have always concentrated on providing a professional service at the high end of the market, co-ordinating sophisticated technical and operational systems that simply cannot be easily delivered from 9000 miles away, despite the current trend for call centre jobs to be transferred to low-cost locations such as India and elsewhere."
Top Up TV, which hopes to attract 250,000 subscribers in its first year, will be available to those who already have Freeview, the free-to-air digital service set up by the BBC, the transmitter company Crown Castle, and BSkyB.
It will offer ten of the UK's most popular TV channels, including UK Gold and E4 for a monthly payment of 7.99.
