1983 – BIRTH OF A NEW STYLE OF IFA
2004 – THE STYLE BECOMES THE IFA MODEL OF THE FUTURE
CHARCOL AITCHISON & COLEGRAVE CELEBRATES ITS 21ST ANNIVERSARY- RELATIONSHIP BASED ADVICE TAILORED TO INDIVIDUALS COMES OF AGE
Cast your mind back to 1983 –
• The pound coin was introduced;
• Maggie Thatcher won a landslide election victory, following a successful military campaign in the Falklands;
• Rangers won both the League Cup and the Euro Cup Winners Cup;
• And what you may also not know is that leading independent financial adviser Charcol Aitchison and Colegrave was established.
The company grew into the largest privately owned IFA in Scotland with offices in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, London and Glasgow and was then acquired by Bradford & Bingley plc in late 2003 and integrated into the existing Charcol brand.
Holistic financial planning success story
In 1983 Aitchison & Colegrave’s client focussed approach and total asset management / financial planning style really broke the mould. It has since continued to demonstrate the success of this business model. As a business, it now has over 10,000 private clients, many of whom are long term clients, 40 blue chip UK and multi-national companies, to which it provides a range of "in-house" services for directors, management and employees, and a portfolio of over 150 Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises. The company has particular expertise in wealth management for entrepreneurs.
Along the way, in 1997 it became the first IFA in Scotland to be awarded the Investors in People award and Brian Aitchison, Managing Partner, was a finalist in the Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2000.
How the world has changed since 1983
Charcol Aitchison & Colegrave has remained true to its vision of relationship based advice over the last 21 years and in that time, a great deal has happened in the financial world. Brian Aitchison comments, “The last twenty one years has seen big changes both for us and for our clients. For example, the FTSE has grown from 1000 to 7790 on a net income reinvested basis over the last twenty years. The pound is going strong too, signifying the strength of the economy. Back in 1983, £1 was worth $1.45 but now it is worth $1.85. All good news for our clients.”
And what of the future…..
Brian Aitchison continues, “The Charcol group of businesses is committed to building on the success of the existing IFA businesses by providing further specialist wealth management and financial planning services to mid to high net worth individuals and also the corporate market. At Charcol Aitchison & Colegrave we expect to play a leading role in establishing the IFA model of the future.”
